🌍 RootsTech – What You Need to Know

RootsTech, the world’s largest genealogy conference, is happening in less than 40 days. It is an incredible opportunity to learn, connect, and discover new genealogy resources, plus every company will announce their latest upgrades to their products.

I’ll be there in person teaching a session called Using ChatGPT as Your Writing Coach. If you’re attending in person, please reply and let me know. I'm organizing a meet-up of Pennsylvania researchers.

📍 Coming Soon: Ohio Genealogical Society Conference

If you’re researching ancestors who lived in or passed through Pennsylvania and Ohio, the Ohio Genealogical Society Conference is a must-attend! Many early Pennsylvania settlers moved westward, making Ohio an important research stop for tracing your family history.

I’ll be there teaching three sessions on Pennsylvania genealogy research.

📖 Update to Book on PA Archives

Great news for your genealogy journey! I updated my book on archival collections to search in the state to make it even easier for you to navigate Pennsylvania’s offline records. There are new tips for getting the most out of archives and repositories and a new chapter on religious records archives.

​The book is free to read on Kindle Unlimited until early March. And if you haven't purchased it yet, now’s a great time to grab a copy!

🆕 New Pennsylvania Birth & Death Records Now Available

Each January 1st, one more year of Pennsylvania birth and death certificates are accessible for genealogy research. Right now these are the years open:

• Birth Certificates: 1906–1919

• Death Certificates: 1906–1974

The newest records are only available at the Pennsylvania State Archives, and you can request copies for a small fee. While Ancestry.com scans and indexes these certificates, they’re several years behind. So if you need a record that’s not yet online, I recommend use the indices on this page to look up the certificate you want and request it from the archives.
